Recovery Timeline
- Varies significantly based on the extent of surgery.
Diet and Lifestyle

- Stay Hydrated
Diagnostic Tests
- Often discovered incidentally during imaging for other conditions or during appendectomy
- CT scan
- MRI may be used
Treatment
- Chemotherapy: Used before or after surgery to shrink tumors or destroy remaining cancer cells.
- Radiation Therapy: Less commonly used for appendix cancer but may be considered in certain cases for symptom control.
- Targeted Therapy: Involves drugs that target specific cancer cell features; used in advanced or rare cases.
Surgical Options
- Appendectomy: Simple removal of the appendix for early-stage, localized tumors.
- Right Hemicolectomy: Removal of the right side of the colon, if the tumor is more aggressive or involves the base of the appendix.
- Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) with HIPEC: For cases where the cancer has spread to the lining of the abdomen (peritoneal carcinomatosis).
